A popular way of making a profit by professional gamblers is to create a 'tissue' price for each horse. This is not supposed to be an accurate prediction of the SP's or odds available. It is supposed to be a reflection of the true chance of each horse - in your opinion. You should not be scared of being very different to the RP forecast or exchange prices. any horse can be a back or lay  at the right price and so I construct my own tissue prices for as many races as time allows. I usually focus on Handicaps for older horses. I can't price up a field of unraced horses so I don't try. I then back or lay horses that are significantly different from my tissue. Some judgement is required - if a gambling stable has an unexposed runner, then I would not lay  it etc.

Calculation of Profit and Loss

There are a number of ways of assessing the performance of a tissue but I think the following way is fair. The tissue will always be close to 100% a is the Betfair SP. It seems fair then, to compare the 2. Both the Betfair and the Tissue prices will be converted into the nearest whole % point and for each % point that the tissue price is bigger than the Betfair price, then 1 point will be staked at the Betfair SP. For example – a tissue price of 4/1 vs a Betfair SP of 10 (9/1) would mean that 20% - 10% = +10 points at 9/1 would be staked. It will be the case that a number of horses in each race are likely to be backed ad the total race profit will be shown by each race with the running total at the top of the page. Note that the final edition tissue will be used.
