ABOUT
THE AUTHOR Billy
watched his first horserace in April 1981. His father had the television on to
watch the Grand National and cheer for Bob Champion and ALDANITI. Of course, the
fairytale was landed and such was the passion, excitement and emotion on the
small screen, Billy was instantly hooked. Shortly
after this, still in 1981 the first winner was backed – NEWS KING trained by
the late Fred Winter. Billy well remembers the early days; “Back
in those days, I would sit at the breakfast table cursing the paper boy until
the Daily Mirror dropped through the letter box. If I was lucky, I would have
time to look at the days runners before school and make my 2 selections – a 1
pound nap and a 50p next best. My mother would then faithfully walk into town
and place the wagers at the local bookies. We didn’t have teletext or premium
phone lines and so at 6.45pm on would go Radio 2 ready for the sports bulletin
in order to listen to the days results.” 27
years later things are a little different, but from the start Billy recognized
that hard work and discipline were essential ingredients in order to make a
success of backing horses. “I dislike gambling” – is a phrase often spoken
by Billy. He loves the world of horse racing dearly and places large sums of
money on the outcome of races – but for him the thrill is beating the system,
being successful, and making a profit after the many hours spent studying form
and analyzing races. “To bet for fun is perfectly acceptable as a leisure
activity – but it moves me not a bit. To make a profit – that is the driving
force. But hey, it should be fun along the way!” At the age of 16, it was the career
choice of on-course bookmaker that was firmly fixed in Billy’s mind. The
careers officer was not amused but an enrolment at Corby Polytechnic to study
business, economics, sociology etc was considered a good way to fill the 2 years
until the age of 18 was reached. Circumstances meant that 2 of the 4 subjects
were cancelled and so, left with a lot of spare time, Billy would spend half the
mornings studying the Racing Post in the canteen and half the afternoons in the
betting shop across the road! Although the career as bookmaker was never realized, it is now feasible with Betting Exchanges and Spread Betting to become bookmaker in your own home. 27 years after the first winner, Billy is now able to make a nice income from betting on the outcome of horse races. You too can benefit from the years of experience. Why bother with all this you might ask? If the money is being made, why the need to advise others? The truthful answer is that betting alone on a computer all day gets pretty lonely! By advising others, I will gain a sense of achievement and fulfillment and you, hopefully, will gain some wealth!
In March 2007, I started proofing my tips with a popular competition website. I quickly established myself in the top 0.5% of tipsters there and built up a large following with my original and good quality editorial submissions, good tip comments & race analysis and of course, good consistent tipping! My comments are often heard on Betfair Radio and I actively contribute on a number of websites. My debut podcast, alongside Ch4's Derek Thompson can be heard from the link on my homepage. I am happy to give advice and answer questions FOC. Just email me. |
